Dennis Kunkel Ph.D. is an award-winning photomicrographer whose images appear worldwide in print, film, and electronic media.

Dennis received technical training in specialized microscopies* while earning his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Washington in Seattle. In the course of his studies, andduring the research career that followed, Dennis's skill as a microscopist allowed him to make significant contributions in the fields of botany and neurobiology. Collaborative efforts with fellowresearchers produced results in other disciplines of science (including zoology, microbiology, and materials science). Forty-eight research papers authored or co-authored by Dennis appear in scientificjournals.

Dennis not only values the scientific information that microscopy yields, but delights in the beauty of microscopic form. Through the years he has assembled a vast collection of light and electronmicroscope images (micrographs). Many of the electron micrographs have been colorized and are offered for viewing in the Education Image Library on his website..
